I recently received the following  email and would be very interested in reading a full account of the events surrounding this case. This is obviously alarming and cast further doubt upon the credibility of ATOS healthcare. your comments would be appreciated. I have received other similar emails but do not have permission to post them, please note, I do not respond to private emails and therefore it is essential that you give me permission to post the content of your messages otherwise I feel it is inappropriate to do so as you may wish to remain anonymous.

I get emails like this almost daily now and would like to make up a dossier on the activities of ATOS which could be presented to the Government as proof of malpractice. This has its drawbacks though as I would need to verify each case and provide the Government Official I eventually present it to with names and addresses. Dont know how you feel about that but if you give me the information and permission to use it I will go ahead.

I’m posting on behalf of my cousin who doesn’t have a pc/internet access.  
In March last year, my cousin was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome and five other mental health problems. That was by the Maudsley hospital, probably the best in the country; he was seen by three specialists for a whole day for tests, having previously filled in detailed questionnaires. When he advised JCS of this he was told to apply for ESA.  
Though he was told his ATOS examination would last 1-1 1/2 hours, he was assessed in under 20 minutes; this was on DATE REMOVED. He scored 0 points, despite the examiner having a 17-page report detailing his obvious handicaps; the woman either did not read the report, did not understand it or, in her infinite wisdom, felt she knew better.  
The appeal achieved nothing. On March 12, my cousin went to a tribunal, accompanied by me and another (distant) relative. My cousin was questioned by a legal and a medical representative, both of whom seemed extremely sympathetic and understanding. After an hour, we were asked to leave and wait until they had made their decision. When we returned, my cousin had been awarded 30 points, the maximum.  
Two points:  
1) We would have gone to tribunal regardless of your blog but your diaries encouraged us enormously. Thank you.  
2) Obviously this has all caused my cousin considerable and unneccessary distress, but beyond that, how much has this lengthy process cost the tax payer? Given the high success rate of claimants at tribunals, I would guess thousands are being pissed away in this manner.
