Dwp examination

Spot the difference

dwpexamination forum now available at http://dwpexaminations.blacktrianglecampaign.org/phpBB3/

DWP letters relating to the loss of benefits are carefully written to make you feel guilty. They know you will simply skim read the letter (due to the levels of anxiety they themselves cause in innocent claimants) and skip to the bit that says yea or nay. They also know that they can (given your state of mind on receiving such a letter) baffle you with Bull s**t, do what I do, take a step back, gather your thoughts, then read every last word of any of their communications.

Lets put the letter to one side and have a game of spot the difference.

The subjects of our game are the alleged ‘Health care Professional’ and our regular G.P.

The ATOS ‘Health care Professional’

Is paid by the Government.

Does not know you or your medical history.

Will view you as a statistic.

Has never met or treated you before.

Has no idea at all how your disability affects you from day to day.

Has information from your G.P. which he reads briefly

Will make a decision on whether you are fit for any kind of work based upon the briefest of examinations.

Will ask you questions which have no bearing on your disability whatsoever.

Will provide the briefest (and certainly the most vague I have ever seen) report to the ‘decision maker’.

Will make assumptions.

Will lie.

Your regular G.P.

Is also paid by the Government.

Knows your medical history.

Will view you as a patient.

Has met and treated you on many occasions.

Knows how your disability affects you from day to day.

Has information about you which he himself has generated.

Will make a decision on whether you are fit for any kind of work based upon medical evidence and his own diagnosis.

Will ask you questions about your disability to aid his diagnosis.

Will provide an up to date and detailed report on the state of your health if required.

Will not make assumptions.

Will not lie.

As you can see from the above statements, there is a clear distinction between the ATOS ‘Health care Professional’ and your regular G.P. These things can be brought to light and used to discredit the DWP and thier alleged ‘Doctors’ in just about any situation, so why doesn’t it happen more often?

The answer is simple, we are rollingover and giving in to the DWP when we should be making a stand. Lets challenge everything they say in thier ‘medical reports’. Draw attention to the fact that thier ‘doctors’ are undermining the authority of our regular G.P. who knows our medical histories. Lets see which of the ‘Doctors’ are doing thier job as a Health care Professional to the standards thier noble profession requires.

  4. These medical assessors will hopefully lose every possible use of there limbs and i will be the medical assesor that day and will tell them thay are able to roll fully. This is not a piss take to anyone who has any physical dibilitaing issue but is relevant to what they say to us. I have reduced blood flow upon elevation of my arm. the assessor told me not to elevate it to resolve the problem. Doctor I dont think so…. They are medical wanabees. they disgrace the proffesionals i work along side

  5. I read on UKBIX site the there is a very high number of “resigned” Doctors employed by ATOS, Doctors dont resign because they dont like thier working conditions, this usually means they jumped ship before they were pushed. Next up ar the “retired” fools who are in it purely for the money, they obviously have issues with greed, gambling or some other money wasting twist which prompts them to continue working, if you can call what they do work. Finally there are those who have “had thier authority to practice removed”? the mind boggles doesnt it. I urge you to check out the alleged “Doctor” on the internet to see if they are indeed allowed to continue working, I always do.

  6. If they are in it for the money then they are going to put any answer that will make them more money if they are paid bonuses for keeping people off ESA & DLA.
If a doctor resigns for any reason they should not be allowed to practice until the reason for them resigning from one post is clear and has nothing to do with them screwing up or that it could have meant they would be struck off if they had not resigned
Once a doctor retires then he/she should be removed from the GMC register and it should be a criminal offence for them to work even for no payment as a medical professional
Those who are struck off should receive a minimum jail term of 20 years (oh!! how cruel am I) and companies that use disqualified doctors, or whatever you want to call them, should receive a very large fine of 25% of the contract for each disqualified doctor they employ.

But the DWP and the government don’t care these cowboys are saving them money at the cost of peoples lives.

  7. That was the point of putting the whole thing out to tender. The Government knew this would happen and they also know they can not be held responsible for the actions of a private company. One can almodst hear the sound of hand washing…………

  8. It is more devious because these “doctors” don’t in fact make the decision. The decision is made by a Decision Maker not employed by Atos but by the dept of Work and pensions (please correct me if I am wrong about this). The decision maker has to be able to add up points, in fact to 15. I suggest the govt could save money by getting primary school children to do the additions for free as part of learning for life experience. In fact since no medical expertise is needed in the “computer says no” part of the assessment either, I think free child labour could be used for the whole charade thus saving the £100 million the govt gives to Atos healthcare.

  9. Yes, we are aware of that, the system is designed to spread the responsibility so thinly its difficult to pin down one person when a decision is found to be wrong. How about this, ATOS say do not include any supporting evidence with you ib50 or esa85. This means the alleged HCP is not aware of any proof that you are actually ill, he/she then completeds the LIMA quiz, passes that on to the DM who then has a Government handbook to which they refer . Up to this point you have not been able to provide any supporting evidence whatsoever as you dont know what the ATOS HCP is going to say in thier report, or to whom. The next thing you know, your Benefits do not arrive n thier due date, instead you get a letter telling you your Benefits have been suspended, usually retrospectively. You are told you have the right to appeal to the DM, at this point you can supply supporting evidence, which should have been seen first by the HCP but which is then ignored by the DM who, now worried his decision is wrong, forwards your case to the Tribunals service, bringing a third party into play. This process can take weeks, it takes about a further 6 months to get to a Tribunal. Oh they know how to make life difficult alright. Check out http://dwpexamination.myfreeforum.org for more infrmation on thier methods of operation.

  10. Hi,

I attended Neasden last week for the exam which as we all know is a joke for all of the reasons stated..I was in fact declared fit for work (my letter didn’t even state that they had stopped my ESA, but rather that I could call the DWP to clarify why they had paid £37.40 in to my account) because I could touch my toes (with difficulty)blow through a tube and believe it or not because I watch Emmerdale and Corrie as part of my nomal day I promise you this was in relation to a question which I was asked. I accept that I possibly can work now, but not under the same conditions as previously adopted by me. I am a one in a million case in that a PE appeared in exactly the same place as previously ( very unusual) and am waiting to hear if surgery is required to remove, but close to my heart so dangerous.
Anyway, found out quite easily that yes, it is decided on a ponts system, rather like your credit rating and that my medical examiner was a qualified nurse not a doctor, but I have my doubts re this also.
The interesting point is that my own GP descripes ATOS as ‘unfit for purpose’ and further informs me that 80% of appeals are UPHELD, but take 6 months to go through the judicial system by which time we are all broke and out on the street or dead through starvation (perhaps a little dramatic I know).
He advises that the government are aware of the problem but are looking for a short term fix to get us off benefits for the period required to appeal, in order to save money now, whilst being aware that the cost of the appeals will cost more in the future!! Makes no sense does it.
My GP is livid and the amount of his patients with this problem grows daily.
Thw DWP freely admit that whilst my GP and a senior hospital consultant state how dangerous a medical condition is, that if the computer says ‘NO’ then the computer knows more about you than the experts do.

ATOS could not give A TOS..what do we do to put things right??

  11. Thanks for you comment and welcome to our world. First may I say you are not alone! you may feel that you are, but I assure you, you arent. There are many stories here and on our sister forum http://www.dwpexamination.myfreeforum.org which I hope you will join , which highlight the unfairness and abusive behaviour of the DWP and thier enforcement arm ATOS. I hope you are appealing, if you are there are also many stories and information relating to successful appeals on both sites. If you are appealing it is essential you get help from the CAB or your local authority Welfare Right Officer quickly as they are presently under extreme duress due to the number of people “passing2 the WCA. Ypour GP is not alone either and I suggest you tell him about our sites and he may well see there is support for good GP’s too.

Can you give us a description of the centre you visited? you can post on the atos medical centre page on the forum if you like, we need information on every “medical” centre we can get to aid us in our fight for justice. Also the proximity of public services and parking would be extremely useful.

Keep posting, we are listening to you and may even be able to help.

  13. from everything that has been reported about the new all work test the gov should see it not working and moreover they should look at what treatments the nhs is giving the person to get them fit for work, ive had very little treatment other than the meds my gp gives me,if these tests the gov is paying the private company to do are not changed then i can see people taking there own life.and what was so wrong with the old b.a.m.s medical test? It was better than paying a french company to undertake the same work, the system now is just making the french company rich while failling the sick and pushing them to the edge, as someone with a number of health and depression i can see a time coming when i will take an overdose because of the way the new system tars everyone on sick benefits as cheats and lead swingers, as for gp,s if they spent more time when filling in the med4 forms rather than just putting down 1 work reason why someone is not fit for work them maybe these so called tests wouldnt be needed in the first place, its to a stage where to be disabled is a disgrace.

    Comment by nob — March 19, 2011 @ 2:03 am

  14. Unless u are being blacklisted by the nhs that is,.
    Hell im screwed lol.
Respectfully i agree that for a huge percentage this is true, i just dont know how others in my situation or similar are coping?
Its insane as much as almost unbelievable.
One truth in all this though, is Atos are frauds and it needs the recognition.
Why are Doctors not fighting this? Arrogance is their speciality. They should be angry at non professional medical analysis overriding their diagnosis’ (based on professiional knowledge and opinions).

  15. I am registered disabled ( deaf ) and i suffer mental health problems suicidal tendancies along with muscular skeletal problems and suspected parkinsons disease and one smashed leg from my younger days in the army and now i am now facing a daunting assessment form from the ATOS people … i just hope that they dont pull me about like they did last time as i was left in pain for days by their ( unprofessionalism ) recklessness!! The form alone is so well… daunting 2 me !!

  16. I’m in the same boat at least as far as the assessment goes, just filled in the ESA 50 questionnaire and will post it shortly, expect an ATOS interrogation around the middle of march and benefit/s stopped immediately..!!
I’m not going to let it get me down, just going to get on with it..!!

  17. What is happening is not new, attack the weak and vulnerable, create more wealth for the better off! When filling in the forms you must do it on a worst case senario. Don’t put up with sitting in an uncomfortable for the examination get up or ask for help to do so. Finally make them realise your condition by telling them or showing them.

  18. Spot on I agree! But why should a registered blind man, who rarely leaves his flat have 2 attend the atos meeting, which he was late for because the letter he received was the only confirmation, no phone call, and is aware of his vision impairment, now faces loss of his home and benifits! I think before investigating GP’s you should be investigating the blind and disabled well being, it disgusting!! Humanity !!!!!!!!!

  22. Hello Maureen.

That’s how Iain Duncan Smith has fixed it, sign on and be fit for work or else you starve.
The people of this country haven’t got a clue what’s going on, it’s a disgrace.
